1.8 - Results!

The next day is spent in exactly the same way. Nillian wakes up in the inn, eats breakfast and goes to the University. There he spends the whole morning and afternoon reading and making notes, with a few shorts breaks to eat and get some tea. Then at the end of the afternoon a member of staff comes by again, telling Nillian that he has to leave. He is almost through, only having three notebooks left to study. Nillian goes into the city centre to have dinner, at again another restaurant. Then he visits the ruin of a nearby monastery, just outside of the city walls. It is quite a sight, and very interesting to walk where once monks made their daily penitance and prayers. After spending a few hours walking the ruins, Nillian returns to the inn.

The third day finally yields some results. Nillian is again working in the Library when he finds a mention to the Great Bang in one of the notebooks. The comment talks about the deaths and then how wind power would never explode. Nillian smiles at that, as it is exactly the same comment that Dr. Aeros made in their conversation three days ago. Nillian quickly leafs through the rest of the notebook, and finds what he is looking for. Next to a design of a wind car he finds the name Gerardina Nott. On the next page he finds some notes on her questions, it seems she was mostly asking about the size and shape of sails, and which propellers worked best. On the other side of the page he finds the thing he was looking for all this time: a real clue. It mentions that Gerardina Nott and her servant talked with Rich and bought some kind of equipment. After that they left town escorted by two rangers, called Lisa and Robert.
Now that is something Nillian can easily check, and hopefully he can trace these rangers and finally get some answers! Nillian, despite having found what he was looking for, continues reading the last notebooks, in case there was even more information. But the last notebook does not contain anything of interest, and with a sigh Nillian returns it to the bookcase. He walks back to his table and straightens his notes.
He is suddenly struck by indecision. He now has three leads, but he is not sure what to do. First there are the records of the Wind Riches, which he cannot access. Then there was the fact that Gerardina went to Stokes before coming to Räan, so he has to visit there too. And now there is the mention of these rangers, who know where Gerardina Nott went to from here.

Nillian decides to first go to the city hall again, hoping that they have any records on these rangers. He knows that all rangers are documented, as you need an official rangers licence to be allowed into Lorion Forest. And because Lorion Forest is not far from the city perhaps these records are kept here. Having made a decision Nillian collects his papers and returns to the city centre. In the city there are a lot more people on the streets than he saw before, and they seem to be decorating the streets with decorations. Parts of the streets are also cordoned off and being cleaned quite rigorously. Nillian asks a passer-by what is happening.
"Oh, they are preparing for the festival tonight. We are celebrating St. Danielle’s day, with a festival of light. Tonight everyone will gather in a parade from the city hall to the big church, with candles and torches and such. There will also be a big firework show and food and drink available."
Nillian thanks the man and decides that this is something that he doesn't want to miss. That means that his evening is planned. He hurries to the city hall, afraid that due to the festival they might already be closed.

His fears are ungrounded as the big doors of the city hall are still standing open, and the counters are still manned. He walks over to the nearest one, and addresses the man sitting behind it.
"Excuse me sir, could I ask you a question?"
"Yes of course, that is what we are here for. Question away sir."
"I am looking for some information about two rangers, working here about twenty years ago. So I was wondering if the list of all rangers is located here, and if I could access it?"
"Ah, I am sorry sir. All ranger records and information is handled centrally in Kataras. If you want I could send a message with your request to a colleague in Kataras, and have a reply in a few days?"
"Oh, that won't be necessary, I will be travelling to Kataras in a short while, so I will be able to request the information myself. Thank you for the offer and the information. Have a nice evening."
"The same to you sir, enjoy the festival."

Outside again Nillian checks his watch. It is half past three, a bit too early for dinner, but too late to do anything else. Looking at his map Nillian decides to visit one of the seaside pubs that he heard about. Because he heard that there was a bad kind of pubs, especially for somewhat rougher patrons, he first walks to the Information Office to ask their opinion.
Then he takes a wind car to the north-east of the city. There he walks around a bit, until he finds the pub that the man at the Information Office recommended. It has a rocking sign outside, saying that the pub is called the Black Pigeon.
Inside the pub has a homely atmosphere. There are several tables with comfy chairs, and next to the bar there are several higher seats. The floor is covered with oaken boarding, as is the ceiling, which is a bit lower than normal. The pub is about half full, with some old-timers sitting at the bar and several groups sitting at the tables.
Nillian walks over to the bar and orders a half pint of the local brew. He then goes and sit by the window, so he can look outside. He has a good view of the nearby cliffs, and a little bit of the city. He slowly sips his beer, enjoying the warmth and atmosphere. When it is five o'clock Nillian thinks about getting up and finding a restaurant. Then he notices that the pub also serves food and the menu is looking very appetizing.
So he decides to stay exactly where he is and have dinner here. He orders a steak pie with some fries, and another beer to go with it. It is a bit fatter food than he normally eats, but the pie tastes delicious, and the combination with the beer works very well. After finishing his meal Nillian settles the bill and returns to the city centre, to go and enjoy the festival.
